Creole buffet at Les Lauriers

Les Lauriers is a petit hotel and restaurant in Anse Volbert (Côte d’Or) on Praslin. It’s formula is “Creole buffet” just like The Boathouse in Beau Vallon, Mahé. We decided to go there, because we had heard good stories about it.

Normally I hate the buffet concept, but this one was really nice.

The creole buffet contains a huge “salad” bar, which is much more than just salads. There are delicious grilled and baked vegetables, pumpkin lasagnas, and many other creative, but tasteful creations. Next to it are several curries with rice, which I liked a lot. And then there’s a cook grilling fresh fish, chicken and pork chops right in front of you.

For the buffet you pay a fixed fee of I believe €30 per person.

It’s not really a romantic restaurant, but it offers good food for a good price. If you’re staying on Praslin you should check it out.

Tante Mimi restaurant

Tante Mimi is a well known restaurant and casino on Praslin. On tripadvisor I had read some very positive reviews of the restaurant so for our first dinner on Praslin we decided to dine at Tante Mimi.

The restaurant and casino are situated in a beautiful, white plantation mansion with huge colums and marble floors. The building is recently built, so it’s not authentic, but the atmosphere is really nice. Think “Gone with the wind” or ” North & South” style.

Italian food in Bel Ombre

After our round trip on Mahé we had just one night left before moving on to Praslin. We had heard good stories about La Scala, an italian restaurant in Bel Ombre, just 10 minutes driving from Beau Vallon.

I don’t remember when exactly, but I had made reservations for 2 over the phone. It’s not always necessary to do so, but if you don’t want to take any chances, it won’t hurt reserving a table.

La Scala is almost at the end of the Bel Ombre road. It’s completely covered in bright light during the night, so there’s absolutely no way you can miss it.

The Boathouse restaurant in Beau Vallon, Mahé islandCreole buffet at the Boathouse restaurant

After the whole backpack incident we did some more snorkeling. Because of the low tide we had to swim a little further and really be careful for all Sea Urchins around. Don’t want to step into one of those…

Later that day, on our 2nd evening in Beau Vallon, Mahé we decided to eat at the Boathouse restaurant, just a few metres from our beach house Clef des Iles in Beau Vallon. I had read some great reviews online so time to see for ourselves.

The Boathouse is all about Creole buffet. You pay a fixed fee (I believe it was €30 pp) and you can eat all you want. There’s a huge salad buffet and various curries. There’s also a cook grilling fresh fish and chicken. Afterwards you can choose from several Creole desserts.

Restaurant La Perle Noire in Beau Vallon, Mahe

Restaurant La Perle Noire

Our first dinner on Mahé

On our first day in Beau Vallon we asked Stephane and Marquise, the owners of Clef des Iles, for advice on where to eat. They suggested La Perle Noire, a restaurant which was just a few minutes walking, and served excellent food. So, we asked them to make reservations.

Around 8PM we walked to La Perle Noire, which is indeed just a few minutes walking from Clef des Iles and next to the Coral Strand hotel.

We were welcomed by the friendly owner and guided to our table outside under the palm trees looking out over a tropical garden. Very romantic, a perfect first honeymoon evening. The menu contained many fresh fish and seafood. Maybe even the fish caught in the morning right in front of our doorstep! Starters, entrees, dessert, all had delicious taste. Prices are at an European level.
