Clef des Iles Mahe
Clef des Iles: perfectly located on the beach
Clef des Iles was our first accommodation on Mahe. After a long night fligt we were picked up by a Mason’s Travel agent at the airport. He guided us to our driver who drove us from the airport to Clef des Iles in Beau Vallon.
When we arrived it turned out the self catering duplex accommodation was located right on the Beau Vallon beach! We knew it would be very close to the beach, but not this close. A great surprise. We received a very warm and friendly welcome by the owners Marquise and Stephane, a Seychellois/Swiss couple. They were truly interested in us and made us feel at home immediately.
The apartment was superb: a nice bathroom with shower, kitchen with everything we needed, living room and the dining table (which we only used as breakfast table) with a magnificent view on the Beau Vallon beach, the turquoise ocean and Silhouette island in the distance. On the 1st floor (or 2nd floor for all American readers
) 2 bedrooms and a separate toilet. The main bedroom had a balcony and again that wonderful view on the Indian ocean.
Attached to Clef des Iles are an open air pizzeria called Baobab, owned by grand mother, and on the other side a diving school.
Although it’s a self catering duplex, we found our fridge completely stacked with enough food for all breakfasts during our stay! Another pleasant surprise after a tiring journey. With tropical flowers all over our ‘new home’ it was clear we made the right choice picking out this place. After 30 minutes or so the owner came to us with 2 opened coconuts to welcome us. With our exotic drinks we sat outside on our doorstep enjoying the view.
Of all accommodations we stayed at in the Seychelles, this was our favorite by far. The warm white sand is just one step away and sitting on your chair watching the gold sun set into the ocean is simply breathtaking. Every morning local fishermen go out and catch fresh fish right before your nose. If you want you can buy it later at one of the stands nearby.
I really recommend this property. Although not as luxurious as a big resort, it beats it hands down. Staying at this wonderful place will give you the real and authentic Seychelles experience.

We just spent New Year at la Clef des Iles with my wife and 3 kids (19 17 and 14). There is not much to add to the above. It is very well described. The place is just awesome. And the pictures are exactly what we had too. What we really liked were the 5 steps to be on the beach from the duplex. The beach is wonderful for baths. We went snorkeling and diving. We enjoyed the local fishing from the beach with a net drawn by hand (seyne).
The owners will greet you with a perfect welcome!
We have one idea in mind: go again as soon as possible!
Hello,
can I ask do you have a contact number for Clef Des Iles – I tried emailing them but they did not respond?
Can I ask – how is the place without air conditioning – are the fans sufficient?
Many thanks
Lisa
Lisa; I myself have tried emailing Clef De Iles using the email address on their website to make bookings for our travel in March 2010, however it seems they only respond to Travel agents, so your best bet is to make your booking through a travel agent, There are many (HolidaySeychelles.com, seyexclusive.com etc.)
Dear Lisa,
You can easily reach us thought info@clefdesiles.com, our link in http://www.clefdesiles.com.
