Italian food in Bel Ombre

After our round trip on Mahé we had just one night left before moving on to Praslin. We had heard good stories about La Scala, an italian restaurant in Bel Ombre, just 10 minutes driving from Beau Vallon.

I don’t remember when exactly, but I had made reservations for 2 over the phone. It’s not always necessary to do so, but if you don’t want to take any chances, it won’t hurt reserving a table.

La Scala is almost at the end of the Bel Ombre road. It’s completely covered in bright light during the night, so there’s absolutely no way you can miss it.

Our dinner at La Scala, Mahe

The food

The restaurant is run by real Italians and they offer quite a menu with traditional italian dishes. We ordered 4 courses (antipasti, primi, secondi & dolci) and the food that was being served was simply great. Kind of strange to eat ‘real’  italian food in the Seychelles. For a moment I felt like I was in Italy instead of Mahé…

Prices are also (northern) italian as you can see on the receipt. La Scala is well-known among tourists staying in Beau Vallon. Most of them take a taxi to the restaurant. I saw guests from all over the planet: Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, some Arab country, India, so it’s a multicultural mix there.

Conclusion: La Scala offers good italian food. If you want something else than grilled fish or creole food for a change, then this is the place to go to.

    Hello,

We’re planning on staying at Clef des Iles this September, and I’m just putting together a wedding (honeymoon) list via honeymoney.co.uk. Just wanted to ask, the bill above, 1083 … what currency is that? I’ve heard that eating out in Mahé is a little pricey, but surely it’s not Euros, is it? Thanks … and came across Clef des Iles thanks to your review on trip advisor … really looking forward to staying there … was going to stay at the Banyan Tree but Clef looks so much better :)

    Hi Matt,

Currency is Seychelles rupees. In euros the bill was just over €90, which is about the same as you would pay in Europe.

Great to hear my review helped you pick the right accommodation!

Any comment on Beachcomber, Saint Anne and Cert Island Resort? Can u recomment a resort with the best beach to see fishes?
Also any comment on La Perie Noire and Corsaine Restaurant?
What are the must visit places in Seychelles?
What kind of currency do they use in Seychelles?
Are we expected to tip for services and what is the market rate?
What is the best thing to bring for friends who are Seychellois?
I appologise for asking so may questions. I will definitely appreciate if someone can help me.
    Thanks!!!!!!

    Hi Eleena,
Quite a list you have there. It all depends on your budget and “attitude towards nature”, some resort are more for at-sea-activities, some in seychelles-idea of being busy street, some on smaller island and not nature. so it really depends.
there’s a whole list of things to do and you should visit Moyenne island, it’s a day trip and just superb.
Currency in seychelles is Rupees, with exchange rate of about 10 for one US.
Don’t know how this works but if you want to email for further info please let me know.
Christopher from seychelles (As you can see i don’t work for a travel agent hahahaha).
